A visual appetite both restless and ravenous; devouring everything from paper to screen.
Amanda Sim is a Staff Designer on Google Gemini, crafting intuitive, multimodal experiences for the AI-powered tools of tomorrow. My work blends a love for strategic systems thinking, deep empathy for users, and practical magic. Before Google, I shaped everything from books to buildings at IDEO, Strava, Chronicle Books, and Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.
On the side, I co-run Working Hard, a design studio shared with David Zacher.
Work
-
Staff Designer on Google Gemini with deep experience shaping AI-powered experiences, multimodal interfaces, and scalable design systems. I bring rigor and play to the craft, balancing strategy with storytelling, systems with spontaneity.
-
Designed core experiences for Google Assistant, Google Pay, and Gemini—crafting intuitive interactions, scalable systems, and expressive brand languages across a range of AI and payment products. From voice interfaces to mobile flows, I partnered closely with UX, research, and engineering to ensure every detail, from layout to motion, felt thoughtful, consistent, and alive to users around the world.
-
From marketing assets and design systems to the interior design of Strava’s office, I had the opportunity to shape many of the brand’s most delightful and unexpected moments. My crown jewel was The Year in Sport 2018, a data-driven celebration of the global athlete community.
-
As a Principal Designer at IDEO, I brought visual clarity and narrative depth to complex systems in mobility, healthcare, tech, and retail. My role spanned concepting to execution, helping clients translate big, ambiguous challenges into elegant, human-centered experiences.
-
Design Fellow for the Chronicle Books Art Book Group, and freelance illustrator for Workman Publishing. Spines I’ve graced include: Rethink the Way You Live (Talbot, 2015), Ultimate Book of Trivia (McNeely, 2015), Weddings in Color (Broussard, 2015), The Everyday Meat Guide (Venezia, 2016), and Eat Bacon, Don’t Jog (Petersen, 2014)
-
As a co-founder of Eone, I led the visual identity, packaging, and marketing for a product designed to be inclusive for both sighted and blind users. My design work earned the DMA Echo Italia Award for Best Web Design and Best Marketing Campaign.
-
Developed visual systems for RFPs, presentations, and brand assets tied to major civic and commercial projects. Helped evolve the firm’s internal design language through thoughtful print collateral.
The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one.
